Thanks, Joe. I worked with guys 1 & 3 days older than us and was in the service with a guy 2 days older. Kinda wonder what the good Lord was thinkin' that week. I'd love to make the festival but doctor appts messed up that schedule. Hope to run into you soon.
Took my first ride on 66 when I borrowed my dad's 54 Ford Pickup and drove out west in 1969. I had just turned 18. Also got to meet Martin Milner while working at Ports O Call on Tierra Verde for Guy Lombardo; they were filming the speed boat race for Route 66 on TV. Being from Florida I grew up with the theme style motels and attractions that dotted 66; a true America Made style of architecture. Thanks for the add on this blog.
The Road Crew - America's Route 66 Band was the opening act for the International Route 66 Festival, August 2-3. Performed on Main Street in Galena, Friday and on Main Street in Joplin Saturday night. Performed for over 15,000 people in Joplin! Their mini-concert at Afton Station that Sunday afternoon was a big hit with visitors. We had a great time on Route 66! Hoping to see everyone in Kingman next year!
