Yesterday, I was able to cruise over to Broadwell and sit with Ernie for the first time. It is unforutnate that I was unable to see the Pig Hip when it was still there. I am new to Route 66 culture and icons. I think I heard the abreviated version of his life. It was really nice. He graciously signed my map and posed for a picture with his tall chef's hat cocked jauntily to the side. I purchased his book and can not wait to dive in after I finish my current book. Despite years of hard work by a dedicated team of preservationists and enthusiasts, late in 2007 I received the news from BNSF that the negotiations have failed to offer any solution which would save the Harvey House in Seligman. As a result, the demolition was completed in May of 2008. It was a hard thing to watch as they tore the historic building apart. I was fortunate to be allowed to be the last one inside to take photos and salvage a few items for the historical society in Seligman.
