About Me:
I'm a Harley rider and a disabled Vietnam Era Veteran now living in Lake Havasu. I've worked as a carpenter (most of my life), mechanic, machinist, semi truck driver, computer builder and repair technician. In Sept of 2001, I was forced to retire due to complications with knee surgeries and my service connected disabilities. I met my wife Cathy in Las Vegas while living there and last worked as a dock supervisor for a trucking company. In 1998 and again in 2003 we attended the Harley Davidson reunions (95th and 100th) in Milwaukee. Every year we ride to Sturgis, SD for my annual 'birthday party' at the bike rally. In 2001 we rode to Daytona for the rally there and then took the ride down through the Keys before heading back home. In 2002 Cathy and I both rode the "Run For The Wall" from coast to coast. In 2003 we moved into our first custom home we had built in Lake Havasu. We travel all over the country on our matching 2003 anniversary Harleys and are hoping to take a trans-Canada ride in the near future.

Ky Michaelson - "The Rocketman"

I got a wonderful gift in the mail yesterday when I received an autographed copy of Ky Michaelson's book "The Rocketman". I met Ky on May 13, 2004 after learning that a couple of my grandparent's old photos showed my grandfather's 1914 Michaelson Motorcycle that Ky's grandfather had sold to him. I met Ky as he was on his way to launch his privately funded and built rocket into outer space (which he did on May 17th - 4 days after we met). We met at the Pilot Truck Stop at exit 9 on Interstate 40… Continue

Demolition of Seligman Harvey House

Despite years of hard work by a dedicated team of preservationists and enthusiasts, late in 2007 I received the news from BNSF that the negotiations have failed to offer any solution which would save the Harvey House in Seligman. As a result, the demolition was completed in May of 2008. It was a hard thing to watch as they tore the historic building apart. I was fortunate to be allowed to be the last one inside to take photos and salvage a few items for the historical society in Seligman.

Seligman Harvey House

http://www.grandcanyonhistory.org/Greenlaw.html

I am the great-grandson of one of Flagstaff, AZ pioneers and tried my best to save the Seligman Harvey House (a.k.a. The Havasu House). I was contacted by several public agencies who saw some of the old historical photos (and asked for my permission to use them) taken by my grandparents. I allowed the photos to be used so that… Continue

See the way Route 66 looked in 1913

My grandparents were pioneers of the Old Trails National Road that later became part of Route 66. Check out the photos from the early 1900s on my web site at http://community.webshots.com/user/mrharleydon You'll see the "Greenlaw" albums in black and white which are from their collection that I inherited after their deaths in the 1970s. So I've got Route 66 in my blood and I inherited the spirit of the road and need to "take that… Continue

Thanks, Don, for your note and the invite to the Yahoo group. I signed up and am enthused to be part of anything that brings out more photos and more history about the great highway. Over the years I've seen a lot of changes on the road, and what can't be preserved certainly needs to be recorded. (Actually, it all does!) I enjoyed your webshots and look forward to getting vicarious 66 kicks here and on the Yahoo group too!

Hey Don,
Thanks for hooking up. I'm planning a 66 ride in July. My older brother may join me. If he does, I hope we hook up. He has a beautifully custom painted ride that's a tribute to MIA/POWs .

thanks for you service and ride safe.

Don, So sorry to hear that the Harvey House project has failed. I know you put a lot of time and effort into saving it. What about the guy who is rebuilding Amboy? Would he be a possibilty for this project?
