Les, Great picture. However what really blew me away was the literary reference to Shelley! Wow! Very good and appropriate. Thanks for sharing.

Epilogue - A 19 Year Old's Point of View

07/22/2008

And now for the long awaited view of the trip from John's perspective:

On this two week long trip there are many things that I have learned, some of which will actually be useful to me.

Sunscreen is terribly important, because too much or too little can be disasterous. Too much and you will have to deal with the piercing pain of sunscreen in the eye while driving. Too little and you will have to deal with a chest redder than a cardinals hat.

Sleeping in teepees not only looks unco… Continue

Epilogue - Lessons Learned

06/30/2008

Well it's been nearly two weeks since we returned to from our Route 66 odyssey. I'm happy to say that my 49 year old body has recovered more quickly than the 42 year old Corvette. With a bit of luck it should be back from the shop tomorrow, ready for it's next adventure.

Looking back on the two week trip theres a number of things I'm really happy we did and a few we could have done better.

Things Done Right

Return From Route 66

19 Jun 08
At 7.45pm tonight, after 3 days and 2485 miles of driving we completed our return trip from California. It was a high speed run for the most part with some interesting driving along the way through California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois. I will try and provide a wrap up to the whole adventure this weekend but for now I'll leave you with the update I sent this afternoon from my Blackberry to the few folks whose emails I had handy. John is also planning to provid… Continue

Day 6 - Yorba Linda to Santa Moncia, CA

Day 6 - 12 June 2008

We arrived! At about 11.30am John and I drove on to the Pier at Santa Monica to officially end our tour of Route 66. What an adventure. Susan and Kahlee were at the pier to meet us with our friends Anne Jones and her son Justin. They snapped this picture as we arrived.

While at the pier we had the ceremonial pouring of Lake Michigan water into the Pacific Ocean off the end of the pier. The bottle of water developed a distinctive odor which had us concerned that the local a… Continue

Mike,

Thanks for the comments. I checked out your web site and it is great. I really miss all my Route 66 travels. My late wife and I had so many wonderful times, meeting lots of nice folks. Of course the old road holds many memories for me. I remarried in 2005 and have done only limited route 66 trips since than. We will go to Flagstaff in Sept. 2009 for the annual Route 66 Festival. We attended the "07 event in Clinton, OK and had a great time. Your 1966 Corvette brings back memories of the good old days for me. I owned a new 1962 corvette and lots of my friends had 64-65-67 vettes back then!
