"Wow.  I thought that bridge was closed to motor veh traffic;  was it opened just for the special occasion, or has it been opened to cars? Reminds me of when we crossed the Marsh/Rainbow bridge in Kansas.  I don't know how many…"

About Me:
I am a stamp collector that specializes in Route 66 pictorial postmarks and Abe Lincoln. I grew up along Route 66 in Williamsville IL. Wilbur Fawns Sr.’s working relationship with U.S. 66 began in 1937 at the age of 29 when he started working at Charles Sutton’s Garage at 141 W. Main St./Route 66 in Williamsville Illinois as an auto mechanic.  On March 2, 1943 Mr. Sutton…

Chicago and back 9.19-20.10

We had a nice overnight trip to the Windy City and the beginning of Route 66 on Sunday the 19th. We had a great day at the Field Museum, Charlie loved the dinosaurs and he also liked the dolphin show at the Shedd Aquarium. We had a good dinner at the House of Blues and then headed back to the hotel for a quick swim, dessert and then lights out. The next morning we walked over to a Post Office to mail 2 postcards home and acquire a hand cancel on my IL Route 66 map. That would be the 1st of the… Continue

Tri State International Route 66 Adventure 6.18-20.10

Our trip began by flying along the dreaded Interstate after a full day of work on Friday for a 7 hour drive to the Downstream Hotel & Casino in Quapaw OK. We hopped in on Rich Henry in Staunton at Henry's Ra66it Ranch to pick up a few Tshirts for the breakfast giveaways and Jim Hinkley's Backroads of 66 book. We made it to the hotel with no problems and hit the sack after 1 a.m. and woke up Saturday before the alarm went off to head to the Egroup Breakfast at 7 a.m.

Now the real… Continue

Saint Patty's day trip from Springfield to Funks Grove 3.18.10

Decided to enjoy the sunny, springlike afternoon and head to Funks Grove to restock our Maple Sirup supply. I picked up my son and we cruised along Route 66. Charlie was enjoying asking me "What kind of truck is that?" for each semi that went by on I55. When we arrived at the Sirup shop, Debby Funk greeted us warmly as usual. She appeared to be having a steady stream of customers as some were leaving when we arrived, one person was still in the shop, and another carload arrived when we left. I… Continue

12.16.09 The news of Bob Waldmire's passing

I took a trip to Staunton today to see Rich at the Ra66it Ranch. I was needing to settle up my tab. It was a cold, sunny December day. I enjoyed the hour drive with just my thoughts while cruising along 66. When I arrived I was greeted warmly by Rich and he told me the sad news. Bob's passing had posted on the Egroup during my drive. We talked about Bob a bit and I came to the conclusion that I needn't grieve but celebrate this man's life. He had lived how he wanted and accomplished things on… Continue

Hello Josh, I wish you to cruise all the mother road ! For me, it was really a awesome travel, it's a good way to know the USA and their residents, crossing the 8 (+Wisconsin) states. Here a wink only for you ... I hope you know where it is !

Hey Josh, Did you make it to the festival on Saturday. We left about noon. I think we're running close to our 5000 photo limit on the site. Keep an eye on those duplicates. Some of those shots could be duplicates. I hope you're doing well? Sorry we couldn't hook up in Litchfield. We had a blast. Saw some friends and made some new. Best wishes.
