- Though I'm told there are places as spectacular, I find it hard to believe. Monument Valley is unbelievably beautiful and surreal, like snaking through the ruins of a magnificent city of giants. The road through the valley is unpaved and potholed, so be prepared to drive slowly and get bumpy, but it's worth it. I recommend going in about 3 or four hours before sunset and watching the sun set over the valley.
