I am just wondering how many members here are also supporting the numerous brick and mortar type associations of the World Wide Route 66 community? I myself joined the Route 66 Associations of Illinois and Missouri last fall. One of the main reasons was to get more involved, keep up on events in my area, meet people whom share my interest, and the quarterly newsletters.
Being located in Flagstaff I am a member of the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona, A member of the Route 66 Car Club of Flagstaff, and my wife and I are supporters of the Route 66 Museum in Barstow, CA. In addition we are also members of what might be the most active Route 66 body- the Canadian Route 66 Association.
As time permits, I work with all of these entities to promote, talk about and preserve Route 66. The library I work at has been designated one of 10 National Park Service Route 66 ARC (Archives, and Research Collaboratives) sites, and I am actively working in our archives to build a digital Route 66 Collection of images and oral histories (see:http://library.nau.edu/speccoll/index.html). I am the Curator for the upcoming Route 66: Don't Forget Winona exhibit that will run from August 2009-August 2010 here in the Cline Library, NAU.
That sounds like a great project, can't wait to see the final result. It sounds like you are very busy and involved. Keep up the good work for the route.
I too am a member of the Missouri and Illinois group. I can certainly imagine that in these tough times many of these state associations need our help to keep doing the good work they do. If at all possible folks help out the state organizations.
I'm a board member of the Illinois Route 66 Heritage Project. I promote Chicagoland tourism (Chicago & its suburbs) as well as Route 66 from Chicago to the Gardner area.
Speaking of the IL Route 66 Heritage Project, do you know how much of the fees for the IL Route 66 license plates goes to the project?
I've been thinking of getting those plates for my cars, but haven't ... yet.
As I'm planning my Route 66 Drive in September, I've thought about joining some of the Route 66 organizations, but haven't had a chance yet. Hopefully soon.

Anne,
Do you know David Clark? He is an author, speaker, and tour guide for Chicago Route 66. He would be a great assett to your board, if he isn't already. I just ordered his new book about the Abraham Lincoln families connection to Route 66 and other byways in Illinois. I met him at last years Litchfield festival.
I'm a member of the Illinois Route 66 Red Carpet Corridor Committee sponsored by Pontiac, IL Tourism. I am also on the board of the Godley Red Carpet Corridor Committee. The Red Carpet Corridor stretches 90 miles from Joliet to Towanda. Each year the Red Carpet organizes a festival in early Spring. This years festival is May 2 & 3, 2009. On behalf of the entire Red Carpet Corridor I invite you "Come Explore Our 90 Miles of Family Fun!"
I hope to make it down the red carpet corridor completely this year. I am also wanting to make it to the IL route 66 associations motor tour this year. I really want one of the tour passports to have stamped at each stop. I've been trying to figure out how to make my own passport with a page for each and every Illinois route 66 community.
