Get More Kicks On Route 66

I just read today that the Pulse may have to stop production of its wonderful newspaper. This saddens me because this affects all 66'ers whether they be travelers, businesses, the curious, and anyone else that I may have forgotten. I had just picked up the most recent edition this past Saturday at Funks Grove Sirup Farm, not knowing of its potential demise. I am new to route 66 culture and have found the articles, advertisements, and classifieds very helpful, insightful, and educational. Like much of route 66 things change over time sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. My only hope is that the Pulse will remain an internet publication if not a paper based one.

I couldn't agree more with your comments. Living in the UK Pulse was a great way of keeping in touch with the Mother Road.

I have heard stirrings this past week that Jim Conkle and Bob "crocodile" Lyle will be traveling the route to drum up advertisers for the rebirth of The Pulse. Show your support in any way you can whether it be as an advertiser, submitting articles, photos, events, subscribing, distributing, etc. This newspaper is a great publication about all 8 states along the ribbon of the mother road.

Jim & Bob are in Springfield IL today, 4/1/09, drumming up advertisers for the upcoming May/June issue of The Pulse. Unfortunately, I was at lunch and not at work when they stopped in. However, if anyone would like to place an ad the deadline is May 1st. You can email the PDF file to crocodilelile@peoplepc.com for approval and cost.

Working with the Pulse was one of the most rewarding, albeit tough, jobs I ever had. I met some of the warmest people on the road. Thank you for encouraging people to support the paper Josh!!

How could I not support this paper? I was instantly hooked after reading my first issue. Last fall I scoured all the local drop offs, Watt Bros. Pharmacy, Bill Shea's Gas Station Musuem, Cozy Dog Drive In, Funk's Grove Maple Sirip, etc. to get every issue I could. When I couldn't find anymore, I ordered the remaining issues directly from the source, Thanks Jason. The Pulse was my first real look into the overall, current route 66 community. It like the Will Rogers Highway changed with every issue and was not static.

June 7th 2009 will make the official return of The Pulse to the route 66 community. I personally can not wait for the new issue that will have a theme of alternative energy sources & savings. There will also be an important demographic survey enclosed with the first 50,000 copies that everyone must complete and send back with the return envelope. Good luck to Jim, Croc, and the rest of the staff.

I just picked up the newest issue at The Route 66 Hotel and Conferance Center in Springfield IL. I have read it cover to cover. CONGRATS, go out to Jim, Croc, and everyone else associated with the newspaper! I can not wait to see what the next issue brings. I will be completing the enclosed survey & mailing it out today.
